  Fatwa: Zakat

The following Question was asked to Dr. Salah Soltan (Ph.D. in Figh, President of Islamic American University, Professor at Dar Ul-Ulume, Cairo University)

ISRI: "Can ZAKAT money be paid to establish an Islamic School in America?"

Dr. Soltan: "It is mubah (permissible) to give Zakat

for Islamic Education to

protect our children from

fitna (trail). It is our duty to establish in every city an Islamic School i.e. Islamic Education. At the conference of Ulmema in Makkah Mukaramah they said it is permissible to give some of Zakat to Islamic Schools. I asked many scholars at the Europe Figh Council and they agree as well"

    As-Salam Alakium Parents,

     ISRI is working towards becoming more Eco-friendly and we are also trying to cut costs down with paper and toner usage. One great way of making a difference is by eliminating memos, flyers and newsletters.

Paper is the number one material that is thrown away. For every 100 pounds of trash we throw away, 35 pounds of it is paper. Paper fills up 30% - 40% of American landfill space. As per decomposes in landfills or is burned in the incinerators, chemicals from its inks are released into the environment. Here in the USA we use more than 50 million tons of paper each year, consuming more than 850 million trees.
